Whether you are curious to try an instrument or just want to find out which starter violin to purchase, I am happy to give your first 30 minute lesson free. There is no commitment, this lesson will give us the chance to see whether my teaching style suits you and lets you try some instruments to find your best fit.
Violins and violas both come in a variety of sizes. The right size for you will depend on your height and arm length. I have a selection of instruments that you can try before committing to buying your own. You can see some of my violins below – the coloured ones are great fun!
For beginners I would recommend 30 minute lessons, this will give you time to learn without being overwhelmed. As your playing progresses you may choose to extend your time to 45 minutes or an hour, but there is no requirement to do so.
Theory is learning to understand the rules and methods of music. Music theory is something that is built into the lessons as we go. If you choose to work for a written theory exam, I can help with this too.
Many of my pupils have chosen to work for and take a violin exam. The easiest is the Preparatory Test, then grades 1 – 8 follow on. There are several exam boards – I have chosen to use The Associated Board of Music exams (ABRSM).
ABRSM is the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music, delivering over 650,000 music exams and assessments every year in 93 countries.
